Behind the name

Ayamluz Wellness

There was never any doubt that I would open my own practice. I founded my business in June of 2017 immediately after passing the CA State Boards and originally named it When in Tao. My hope was to honor the Taoist roots of this medicine, while making it more accessible to those who need it.

The more I expanded my practice, the more the name began to feel disingenuous. Through my work with clinics and nonprofits, I realized how few Spanish speaking acupuncturists there were. My community longed for someone they could trust and begin this journey to wellness with.

This longing grew in me as well. While my practice grew, as did my internal struggle of practicing as a ‘traditional’ acupuncturist and a bruja acupuncturist.

It was then I realized my business name I were not on the same page. But the universe has this funny little way of giving you what you need when you need it.

My daughter and muse, Maya Luz was born in 2021. Her birth gave me the opportunity to connect to who I was and where I was going as an acupuncturist and a healer.

In 2024 (under a full moon of course), we rebranded to Ayamluz Wellness: a healing space para todos. For everyone.

About Jessica De Leon, L.Ac, DAOM

Owner I founder I Acubruja

(Bruja means ‘witch’ en Español. A good witch, of course).

I am first generation Guatemalan- American, fluent in both English and Spanish, and a Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist.

My acupuncture journey began at the young age of 18 when I was introduced to this beautiful medicine and never looked back. I earned my Master's Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Yo San University in Los Angeles in 2016 and graduated with my Doctoral Degree in Women’s Health and Reproductive Medicine in 2026.

I’ve had the pleasure of training in multiple clinics including the Venice Family Pain Clinic and Being Alive in West Hollywood (a clinic dedicated to providing treatment to HIV patients). I also took part in intensive and advanced clinical training at the Acupuncture Academy in China: The China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center, and the Institute of Acupuncture and Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences.

After focusing so heavily on Traditional Chinese Medicine, I chose to also study and become a Practitioner of Esoteric Acupuncture. I studied for an additional 2 years from 2017-2019 under Dr. Mikio Sankey.

I absolutely love being of service to the community. This truly is my calling, in every sense. It is such an honor to be able to practice a medicine that isn’t from my culture, and I will always do my best to be respectful of that fact. It is a balancing act of honoring the traditional aspects of this medicine while bringing my own culture and personal touch to it, in hopes that I may share it with you.

I hope to join you on your journey to wellness.

After focusing so heavily on Traditional Chinese Medicine, I chose to also study and become a Practitioner of Esoteric Acupuncture. I studied for an additional 2 years from 2017-2019 under Dr. Mikio Sankey to become certified in this beautiful modality. This allows me to work with the chakra system, sacred geometry, and the subconscious. Essentially taking the mind-body-spirit method to a much deeper level. I do my best to apply a little Esoteric and Traditional Acupuncture to all my treatments.

I am currently pursuing my doctorate degree at Yo San university. I will graduate in April 2026. If you’d like to follow my doctoral journey, I invite you to visit our blog!

I truly don’t know what profession I would seek out if not this one. I absolutely love being your of service to the community. This really is my calling, in every sense.
